The main trade

Carpentry and cabinet making

North London housing stock is Victorian, and almost nothing in it is square. Flat-pack does not fit an alcove that is 40mm wider at the top, which is why so much of this work is made on site instead.

Alcove units, wardrobes, shelving, doors, skirting, architrave and staircase repairs.

Commonly asked for

  • Alcove cupboards and shelving either side of a chimney breast
  • Fitted wardrobes built into an awkward bedroom
  • Doors eased, rehung or replaced
  • Skirting, architrave and mouldings matched to the originals
  • Stair treads and spindles repaired
The rest of it

Flooring, kitchens and glazing

The trades that would otherwise mean three more people and three more waits.

Flooring

Laid, repaired and finished, including the creaking boards and the thresholds nobody got round to.

Kitchen remodelling

Units fitted or altered, worktops and the carpentry that makes a kitchen sit level in an old room.

Glass repair

Glazing put right, which is the job that tends not to wait.

Locks and windows

Locks changed or fitted, and window installation.

For landlords and agents

Property maintenance

Why one trade suits

  • A whole snag list cleared in one visit
  • One person to brief, one invoice
  • Locks and glazing covered for turnovers
  • Carpentry done properly rather than filled and painted

Highbury and the streets around it are largely rented, and a turnover list usually needs a carpenter, a glazier and a locksmith at the same time.

All three are on this list, which is the whole argument.

Prices

What does it cost?

Placeholder — needs your figures

No rates are published anywhere, and we will not guess at them. Send a day rate, a call-out minimum, or a from-price for a fitted alcove unit, and they go on the page.

Placeholder — needs confirming

The nine services above come from a public directory listing rather than from your own page, so confirm them. Also worth adding:

  • How long you have been carpentering, and where you trained
  • Whether you hold public liability insurance
  • Which north London postcodes you cover
  • Whether you take on landlord and agent work
  • Anything on that list you no longer do
